Welcome to Atlanta

"Celebrating" is not quite the right word with which to describe this last day of August. We are, instead, "marking" our two months since leaving Germany and full month of living in Atlanta. There's so much about Europe that we loved, and it's hard to let that go.

It's been a whirlwind of purchasing and unpacking, not to mention Chris starting his new job, but we've somehow already attended dance classes, preschool orientation, and a chorus rehearsal, not to mention dinners/movie/zoo/parties with friends and settling ourselves into a new church. I already have three favorite restaurants, where you will go when you visit me, and I have experimented with driving sans GPS.

I expected that moving to Atlanta in the peak of summer would be like moving to Wisconsin in the dead of winter (which also happened). We heard that there would be bugs and humidity and sweat like we'd never experienced. That people stay indoors all summer, a sort of inverse hibernation. That Southern summers are like Midwest winters.

Balderdash. I would take these summers over frigid, snowy, 6-month winters any year. Here's why:

1) Some parts of the day are actually comfortable enough for physical exertion.
2) My car does not need any scraping, brushing, or other extra maintenance.
3) My wardrobe does not need any long underwear, scratchy wool, or heavy accoutrements.
4) The trees are blossoming and the skies are blue - even if it's hot outside, it looks beautiful.
5) Roads are safe to drive on without fear of slipping on ice or getting stuck in a ditch.

So. Just wanted to clear that up.

Not much of a first post, but it will have to do. Hi, my name's Holly. I'm living in Atlanta now and I think that it will work out OK.
